Who We Are

About Us

The LHS Viking Band is a family. It is comprised of students, parents & alumni that have grown up together, are invested in their community and have decided to do something special over their high school career. The LHS Viking Band is a program like non-other. It celebrates the amazing abilities of the students, creates a unique common experience with 200+ of the student’s piers, and satisfies one of life’s most vital needs, that of a true connection. The LHS Viking Band is so much more than one class that is here today and gone tomorrow. It is the home for our North Arlington Community that seeks to recognize amazing players, develop emerging talent, encourage growth and equip each class with a fundamental understanding of the level of work it takes to be a success.

LOCATED: Arlington, TX

ESTABLISHED: 1970

History:  Around 1965 the City of Arlington was small but on a growth trajectory. It had become obvious to the School Board that another High School was needed in Arlington. The North Arlington area was rapidly expanding and offered a unique opportunity for school expansion. In 1970 Lamar High School was opened. From the day it opened, extracurricular success has defined the school. The LHS Viking Band has been the heartbeat of Lamar since day one. The LHS Viking Band has played an interictal role in the life of Lamar, but more importantly has created an extended family over the last 48 years. This family shares a bond that is unique. It is a bond  through a program in which they grew, became leaders and developed a deep pride in a band and community that will never go away.
