Why We Do It

Participating in The LHS Viking Band is a unique experience. There is no other activity that takes as much work, sacrifice and produces very few individual accolades, but unparalleled team success. As a student you start at an elementary school and develop your first friends and acquittances. You then go to Junior high and grow that group and deepen some of the ties you had. Then you get to Highschool. Fifteen years has passed, and real friendships have developed. Everyone that grows up in your cluster, within an age group, is there. That same thing happens at other schools across the nation. The students that are in band are a cut above. The same thing applies at other schools. NOW, you are given the opportunity with about 200 of the people you grew up with, to go take the field in coemption and see how your school and community stacks up. There is nothing in life, like that experience. You and your lifelong friends in a group facing others just like you. The dedication, determination, discipline & PRIDE you feel before, during and after this period last a lifetime. If you don’t get that, then you are in the wrong place!
